Can England see off the West Indies in the first one-day international?
So far the England cricket team has taken a serious drubbing in the West Indies giving the home team their first test series win for a long long time. Despite hopes that Andrew Strauss would be able to steady the ship after the Kevin Pietersen debacle the England team have performed abysmally even though they only lost the test series by one test. So can they take the one-day international series and regain some pride?
As we await the start of the first one-day international there are concerns over the fitness of Andrew Strauss and this together with the team’s dismal performance so far on this tour sees the West Indies as slight favourites with odds of 0.94/1 with England at evens. The one-day international squad has a very different to that of the test match although it is very similar to the 20/20 game just last week. It appears as though England are prepared to gamble on younger players to give them experience away from home although whether this will be enough to take the one-day international series remains to be seen.
As the Ashes series looms against Australia England are rank outsiders at 2.55/1 with Australia at 0.74/1 and a drawn series at 5.2/1. Can England regain some form before this year’s Ashes series?
